These two kids had a really hard time reading when they came to me last year, but, we worked and worked all year long to get them on grade level by the end of the year. They made so much improvement in just one school year, I was amazed! Both of their Mom's were extremely helpful and supportive and became some of my best friends. They would take what their kids learned at school and do the same things at home.<br /><br /><div><div></div><div>At the end of the school year last year it was really hard to let them go. Both of their supportive mom's vowed that they would work hard all summer to keep them reading so they didn't forget all they had learned, and that is exactly what they did. </div><br /><div>At the beginning of this school year both mom's showed up in my classroom and asked if I would be willing to tutor their kids this year. We worked out our schedules so they could come to my house every Thursday for tutoring. We worked on more reading and math skills. </div><br /><div>Throughout all of this I grew to love these children as if they were my own. We would look forward to having them in our home. Sometimes we finished early and we would let them play the Wii while they waited for their parents to arrive.</div><br /><div>Just last week they both participated in the Center Stage play, You're A Good Man Charlie Brown. They asked us if we would come and watch them. Tommy and I got tickets for the Thursday show on the second row. We had so much fun watching them sing and dance on the stage. Everytime they came on stage I would point out to Tommy where they were and we would laugh and smile at just how adorable they are.</div><br /><div>This post is just another reason of why I am a teacher, for kids like these two. I love that I can make a difference in the lives of my students. In this case though, these two kids have made a huge difference in our life. Thanks Mckay and Holly we love you!!</div></div>Hollyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10808767901346801444noreply@blogger.com25tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5762667552380344937.post-44085708728635174202009-04-15T17:52:00.007-06:002009-04-15T20:13:01.759-06:00Homemade Bread...YUMMY!This week I have off of school because it is Spring Break. This is the first Spring Break I haven't gone to Vegas to get my hair done. So on Monday I made of list of all of the little things I wanted to accomplish this week. I knew that if I did that I would force myself to get up and do things instead of sleep all the time. For those of you that know me I love to sleep and usually I sleep every break away and don't get anything done.<br /><br />Some of the things on my list included organzing different parts of the house that drive me crazy, trying out some new recipes, running errands, and making homemade bread.<br /><br />Let me give you a bit of background on the last one. Tommy's mom makes the BEST homemade bread I have ever tasted. Little by little I have been getting everything that I needed to make the bread. A couple of months ago Tommy's parents bought us all of the ingredients in bulk to make bread. I have wanted to try this for awhile now but have never made the time to do it. I have watched Tommy's mom make the bread and I am not going to lie I was very intimidated. (By the way did I mention that you have to grind your own wheat). I decided that this week was the week I was going to try to make it.<br /><br />The only thing I didn't have was a rolling pin so I went and got a rolling pin and then started the process. After a few phone calls to Tommy's mom for some last minute help and reassurance I did it.<br /><br />I don't know why I thought that it was going to be so hard. It wasn't hard at all and it tasted so good. We had BLT's last night just to test it out. We had Tommy's sister and our neighbors over and everyone said it was delicious!<br /><br />Thanks Mom for the help and making me get over my fear of making homemade bread. I think I am going to try to make it at least a couple of times a month from now on.<br /><br />Here is a picture of my masterpiece. Obviously I need to work on the presentation a little bit, but come on this this my first loaf!<br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325074742270477250" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0L_IKr6UJuy4sQGXgbdWok1Z2UVuNUydzjgSbtuxu3kgoZSb2kHaCjdiLVY9TM7GxiJeBTncduqnUWnDBSNpmPD1doPvBkOoy_EXh_U01QEbb3G2nI_b8VnZroQP-kYZUrBlsz7pTn4s/s400/IMG_3202.JPG" border="0" />Hollyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10808767901346801444noreply@blogger.com21tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5762667552380344937.post-56434226029239534162009-03-28T16:49:00.017-06:002009-03-28T17:28:24.606-06:00Teacher Appreciation Week<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIbA3oSxBudM9zHigPxpC7Hd_8xGmYJIC-N6riBlGzvmXIhlsWzFcqtMjvf1YOHmYfbDdUNyq2wH1gfW6C-QohkSF_ZB77pzUmq3fpVn15i6g_zcz8z0ql-zb5UTV5Y7ggOEMyll9Im9k/s1600-h/IMG_3163.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318378247052498210" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIbA3oSxBudM9zHigPxpC7Hd_8xGmYJIC-N6riBlGzvmXIhlsWzFcqtMjvf1YOHmYfbDdUNyq2wH1gfW6C-QohkSF_ZB77pzUmq3fpVn15i6g_zcz8z0ql-zb5UTV5Y7ggOEMyll9Im9k/s400/IMG_3163.JPG" border="0" /></a>For a teacher this week is like Christmas, we get spoiled rotten! Anyway my room mom who I consider one of my good friends decorated my door this year. So those of you that don't know, Tommy and I are huge Duke basketball fans. She knew this and decided that since it was March Madness that this is what she would do to decorate my door.<br /><br />As you can see from the pictures she did a phenominal job with everything she put on the door. Click to enlarge the picture and you will see that she remembered all the little details. The only thing I would have made it any better than it was was if I had a bigger door and had pictures of all of my students with crazy Duke blue wigs on, my little Cameron Crazies! (The die hard student section at every home game in Cameron Indoor Stadium is know as a Cameron Crazie)<br /><br />This picture was taken on Thursday, the day of the big game. Notice the Duke attire.<br /><br />Unfortunently after persuading all of my students to root for our blue devils they disappointed us, losing to Villanova in the sweet sixteen. It was a sad day in the Deaver home, nonetheless, there is always next year! GO BLUE DEVILS!!Hollyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10808767901346801444noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5762667552380344937.post-35570244967719972572009-03-21T14:23:00.022-06:002009-03-25T16:58:53.820-06:00"Purse" EnrichmentIt's about that time again. We had our Relief Society birthday enrichment on March 4<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">th</span>. Sorry it has taken this long to get this event posted.<br /><br /><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div>Since the Christmas enrichment was such a success, I was having a really hard time figuring out what I could do that would top it or at least match it. I was searching online and found a few ideas and this is what we decided to do.</div><br /><div></div><div>The whole theme of the night was around purses, ya know Home Family and "Purse"<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">onal</span> Enrichment. I wanted to do a purse for the invite, so I went online and found the cutest pattern. It was one of the more difficult and time consuming invitations but in my opinion when you have a cute invite it makes people more excited and more willing to attend. I wouldn't have been able to make 100 of these without Tommy's help. He did all the measuring and marking and I did all the scoring. Then my committee came over and helped fold and glue them together. Here are some pictures of us putting the invitations together.</div><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMe6H39BW9w_ycrsmfbFgDY1S50e4SzwNN3NxMFHXQpHMQHAE5arOr-9H3aqhPeIK53GQjeMUEK2iyR9RjLH30XfAH1Z1BAJgSes70EVSkKthR4m3Z-p_lwTuP6mWOu6UaFXn3VlrxaJ0/s1600-h/IMG_3089.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316947690802263122" style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMe6H39BW9w_ycrsmfbFgDY1S50e4SzwNN3NxMFHXQpHMQHAE5arOr-9H3aqhPeIK53GQjeMUEK2iyR9RjLH30XfAH1Z1BAJgSes70EVSkKthR4m3Z-p_lwTuP6mWOu6UaFXn3VlrxaJ0/s320/IMG_3089.JPG" border="0" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrGzpUjjUgie5QallqEn0dwI1NoBn23t5N3E5GUmb4XpZfwx5G1yrwcPcmhCgGFMrhSgAn9tDz0KBmTkgZhVizoJwOo5iAF-zgjNPk5nMi616MZaDejyJnOknaMHQ2YrCCVCcIE5F1jec/s1600-h/IMG_3088.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316947696998292274" style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrGzpUjjUgie5QallqEn0dwI1NoBn23t5N3E5GUmb4XpZfwx5G1yrwcPcmhCgGFMrhSgAn9tDz0KBmTkgZhVizoJwOo5iAF-zgjNPk5nMi616MZaDejyJnOknaMHQ2YrCCVCcIE5F1jec/s320/IMG_3088.JPG" border="0" /></a></div><div>Inside of the purse we put a little piece of paper with all of the info. The food was delicious.</div><br /><div>I didn't have an on time drawing this time, but I did notice that so many people were on time or even came early. WAY TO GO sisters! So the sisters came in and sat at the table of the month of their birthday. If that table was full they could sit wherever the wanted. This was a great idea because it forced people to sit and talk to people they probably wouldn't normally talk to.</div><br /><div>After the sisters ate we had a weigh in. The sisters were told to bring their purses. I didn't tell them anything else. I had a scale and the sisters lined up and wrote their name and how much their purse weighed. I gave a free car wash at Super Sonic to the sister with the heaviest purse. The girl that won had a purse that weighed 17.5 pounds. Can you even imagine lugging that around all day!!</div><br /><div></div><div>After the weigh in our RS president spoke about the different "purses" we carry throughout our lives. She talked about how the different purses that we carry reflect our <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">responsibilities</span> in this life. She talked about how sometimes we don't like the purses that we have to carry and we want to trade it in for something new. She did a great job. She wrote a cute story that she shared at the end. She is amazing and really started the night off right. </div><div></div><div>Once she was done talking we played a game with the ladies purses. I would call out an object and the first sister to show me that object from their purse got a little piece of candy. I told the sisters that they shouldn't eat their candy because their would be a grand prize for the person with the most candy at the end of the game. This was hilarious. One of the things that I asked for a calculator. A sister in the back pulled out a huge calculator. I am talking desk size. It was so funny. <div><br />After that game we played a game of RS Jeopardy. This was by far my favorite part of the night. I explained the rules and handed out the buzzers for each team. We just had 4 tables of sisters group together to be one team. There were 3 teams just like there are 3 different contestants in Jeopardy.</div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div>The <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">categories</span> were Hymns Significant to RS, <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">General</span> Relief Society Trivia, Visiting Teaching, Know your RS Presidency, and two <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">categories</span> were Know your RS Sisters. I found some of the questions online and asked for help from members of the ward for the other categories. </div><br /><div>We had each team come up with a team name and my friend Kristin was the score keeper. We started the game and I was surprised at how knowledgeable the sisters were. I really thought that I had some tough questions. As the game continued things really started to heat up. I had sisters yelling at me that they buzzed in first. We had teams yelling at other teams that they were first. Whoever said that RS sisters aren't <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">competitive</span> were wrong. I saw different sides of sisters that I had never seen before.</div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div>About halfway through the teams were demanding we stop and give a current score. I felt bad for Kristin because she was doing her best to give each team their points but didn't have time to add them up. So I told the sisters we would take a short commercial break to give the teams an accurate score. I was under the impression the sisters could just visit for a minute. Before I knew it the Primary President, another sister in the ward and me were singing the <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7">Mormon</span> rap. If you haven't ever heard this it is hilarious and fit perfect with our night. This song came out ages ago but I grew up listening to it. I heard that someone videoed it but I <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_8">haven't</span> seen it. Wish I had it for the blog. </div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div>After we got the scores totaled we had a few more questions then it was time for final Jeopardy. We gave each team a piece of paper to say how much they were going to wager. Then we gave the final Jeopardy question. Boyd whistled the tune for us. I thought it would take them awhile to come up with their answer but once again I underestimated them. It seriously was the funnest and funniest moment yet at any of my <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_9">enrichments</span>. If anyone wants a copy of the game I am willing to share. I would love to see others use it. Just email me and I will send it right your way.</div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div>At the end we all sang Happy Birthday to the Relief Society and ate homemade gourmet cupcakes. You got that right. The night before enrichment I got together with a sister from the ward and her most willing and helpful daughter-in-law and made about 75 cupcakes. They were delicious and were way better then a piece of cake.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikljkvHAQ3dHVWVdL6EtNgG6QCP8yI8BBjblyhWpnGf1FveTsFUneYFgBpUDF2C1D20zjhQi8rXk1w0F0pI0pUgA6SOzKULWf3N1r8-ZrMMAoQ5D8SXoPgWZONfHo3Ctv8WEkYyLaTfak/s1600-h/IMG_3129.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316947690097008066" style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikljkvHAQ3dHVWVdL6EtNgG6QCP8yI8BBjblyhWpnGf1FveTsFUneYFgBpUDF2C1D20zjhQi8rXk1w0F0pI0pUgA6SOzKULWf3N1r8-ZrMMAoQ5D8SXoPgWZONfHo3Ctv8WEkYyLaTfak/s320/IMG_3129.JPG" border="0" /></a><br />YUMMY! </div><br /><div>At the end of the night I gave this song to the sisters to tie everything all together. Someone has taken the words from Count Your Many Blessings and made it into Count Your Many Purses. Way cute! If you click on it you can see the words.</div><div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrrenrPa0eShgoStou11nf8Jf4C6gFFwul6rpBn7yNzFgBiUxmsSOqA8PnXNt5qRQxG_qBtmHh2X2LYuKSJubDFWtrpWeWaNOionHRSg7A5xln1MAZYpqkFsyrZYFnbudyGdDv41lJLv4/s1600-h/purseonal+journey.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316962620263545938" style="WIDTH: 207px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrrenrPa0eShgoStou11nf8Jf4C6gFFwul6rpBn7yNzFgBiUxmsSOqA8PnXNt5qRQxG_qBtmHh2X2LYuKSJubDFWtrpWeWaNOionHRSg7A5xln1MAZYpqkFsyrZYFnbudyGdDv41lJLv4/s320/purseonal+journey.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />All in all this was another great enrichment. I am off the hook again until the summer. Let me rewind a few weeks to when the first sign up went around the ward. Tommy and his friend Boyd signed each other up for some unique "talents." (interpretive dance, swan lake ballet, and fire dance) Neither of them were serious when they signed each other up and each week they got crossed off.<br /><br />One of our good friends in the ward decided to play a great trick on both of them. During Relief Society when the sign up was going around she signed them both up to do a duet on the nose flutes. You got that right nose flutes. If you have never seen one of these it is a real instrument purchased at a local music store. Neither of them could figure out how to play them until early Saturday morning. We were greeted Saturday morning with Boyd at our door showing Tommy that he finally figured out how to play it. If you have never played you need to check this out.<br /><br />So Saturday night they put on their performance. They decided on London Bridges. We got them the nerd glasses just to be a little bit silly. Check out the video! Sorry that it is so shaky. I was laughing so hard and couldn't hold still.<br /><br /><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dwJUbpzbtmw6n1M6_g2Ob33ORtwYn52P4H1uzOlC4xWZh0uqvMCIojz9TE6i7qboFIQwvyibSSCuAsm5YJwrw' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe>Hollyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10808767901346801444noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5762667552380344937.post-88558726786892151332009-01-29T21:43:00.007-07:002009-01-29T22:07:12.553-07:00The World Should Revolve Around MeSo Tommy was at work talking with one of his co-workers and told me about this fun little activity she did on her blog. This is extremely out of date but just too good not to blog about. During November we started planning what we wanted to do for Christmas Enrichment. It is tradition in our ward to always serve dinner. I wanted to do something extra special for the sisters in our ward. Here is the rundown.<br /><br />We decided on the theme of service. I don't know where I got this quote (in fact I don't know if it is even a quote) it just popped into my head as we were planning. It was the theme of our whole night.<br /><br /><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div align="center"><span style="font-size:180%;">Service is the Spirit of the Season</span><br /><br /></div><div>Here is a picture of the invitation. I got the idea from a scrapbook magazine. They turned out so cute. I was so glad. My friend Melanie wrote the wording. If you click on the picture you can see what the invite says. Super cute! Basically it is the same thing as a white elephant exchange except instead of giving a present the sisters had to give a service they would provide to another sister during the month of December. Each sister had a card on their table that they wrote their service on, then they put it in the small gift bag on their table.</div><br /><div align="left">All of the gift bags were brought to the front and then each sister was given a number. They came up and picked a bag and read the service and who it was from. It got interesting when people began to steal services from others. Some of the services that got stolen were free piano lessons for a month, a Christmas Wreath, crocheted <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_9">washcloths</span>, free rock climbing lesson, a first aid kit for your car, etc. I have to tell you that the sisters in my ward really came through. They thought of some great services. </div><br /><div align="left">To close the night we talked about the importance of service to each other and the unity we would feel in our Relief Society if we would each sincerely do our service. We gave each sister a gorgeous homemade ornament. It had a little tag with our theme to remind the sisters the importance of service during the Christmas season and throughout the year.</div><br /><div align="left"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs0PrU8JMgRulEaEpAPFk4mRx3337u60rxJrWaDW4TQK4duQXJhwGX4elrcC_fpxY5RQ8D_xA3LhaAUulI0DLkK_E03WigngP3kKpDIY1Ak17QwQhJ6Uc_6cTmzyyU4IiZ_PN5KC-SZZU/s1600-h/IMG_2864.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293135704933571810" style="WIDTH: 187px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 281px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs0PrU8JMgRulEaEpAPFk4mRx3337u60rxJrWaDW4TQK4duQXJhwGX4elrcC_fpxY5RQ8D_xA3LhaAUulI0DLkK_E03WigngP3kKpDIY1Ak17QwQhJ6Uc_6cTmzyyU4IiZ_PN5KC-SZZU/s320/IMG_2864.JPG" border="0" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjy18CsVATdMImwBIR78sfB-alYDK3ELANsSQyWHRQCM1eUh2jPNPQBYLUobIAIjEhdwj3Jl8AwKANYZ5XCIUPylOqUqE0qbI0n3NfTow5S-gXeZRZHNc9H62LGcn5FLcwvzxSTDGLGAMQ/s1600-h/trees+with+ornaments.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293125873837740914" style="WIDTH: 270px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 176px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjy18CsVATdMImwBIR78sfB-alYDK3ELANsSQyWHRQCM1eUh2jPNPQBYLUobIAIjEhdwj3Jl8AwKANYZ5XCIUPylOqUqE0qbI0n3NfTow5S-gXeZRZHNc9H62LGcn5FLcwvzxSTDGLGAMQ/s320/trees+with+ornaments.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /></div><br /><div align="left">This evening was a huge success. The book sat in a drawer for a couple of months until one day I was looking for a book to read on my way to Las Vegas to visit Tommy's family. I started reading it and fell in love with it. I read the rest of the books in a matter of weeks. <br /><br />When I found out they were making a movie I was so excited to see it. Melanie Brower kept me on top of the whole thing. Casting of characters and such. Thanks Melanie. Later she invited me the premire of Twilight on Nov. 20th at 7:00 pm. I felt so priviledged because I knew we would get to see it before it's official release. I was so excited. I asked Tommy if he wanted to go and he said no but he said he would. What a great SUPPORTIVE husband I have!<br /><br />So the night of the premire arrived and I was really excited. As we walked into the theater we were given a VIP pass that would later be used for prize giveaways. Tommy and I don't ever win anything, so we didn't think much of it. My pass had a squiggly line on it and I got a bookmark. Yeah for me. Tommy's pass had Jacob's name written on it. As the prizes were given away we realized that he was going to win a good prize. And we did! <br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilyp8IuoNVAJpu2FRBAcOepiU5mnQdkw3-pm6E7kU8jXPR813RxzMgBr08hKHfJOytyUvld7oJQdscaOydS18ea7bTIHxsEryEhFTv1uiaTeCwkcGPb3vp3nWuO2iyPMIlWxg8XnHeYV0/s1600-h/IMG_2822.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5276450587740886674" style="WIDTH: 244px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 348px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilyp8IuoNVAJpu2FRBAcOepiU5mnQdkw3-pm6E7kU8jXPR813RxzMgBr08hKHfJOytyUvld7oJQdscaOydS18ea7bTIHxsEryEhFTv1uiaTeCwkcGPb3vp3nWuO2iyPMIlWxg8XnHeYV0/s400/IMG_2822.JPG" border="0" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwX9_c1r19rpp32uwOcMhDpgcN63N1gXr2vNOwbZrfvsuSVjdHM496euDMYLwFUMa7kBkdy1xpQMT8jkjL_SYaL7lw4j0JuJgXqDIa0T4BXGCwts6jGz_IYF0wHgHfCg79T2O4TqToMSE/s1600-h/IMG_2826.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5276450596274224978" style="WIDTH: 291px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 234px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwX9_c1r19rpp32uwOcMhDpgcN63N1gXr2vNOwbZrfvsuSVjdHM496euDMYLwFUMa7kBkdy1xpQMT8jkjL_SYaL7lw4j0JuJgXqDIa0T4BXGCwts6jGz_IYF0wHgHfCg79T2O4TqToMSE/s400/IMG_2826.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br />This is a picture of the prize. I said, "Why of course I did. It is the softest blanket ever!" Camryn again, "I am so glad that you won!"<br /><br />I am glad we won too. We had a great night. Tommy signed us up for a cake for the cake walk. Usually I just go and pick up a nice decorated cake from the grocery store. This year I decided to try and put a little more creativity into it.<br /><br />I searched online for some different unique ideas. I found this idea and put my own little twist on it. It really was extremely easy and so cute. <div><br />I think it was a hit at the party. It was the second cake to go.<br /><br />So if any of you have a Halloween party this weekend and are in need an easy and cute cake idea try this one. <div align="center"><br /><span style="font-size:180%;color:#33cc00;"><strong>THE MASTERPIECE</strong></span></div><div align="center"><span style="font-size:180%;"><strong><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjefcfdFLehWZlotRsQuqz91BduPrx2m6URT3YYV6NzMihkflQWKlfPlN43wsuDAx6Rs8Q5hymzQndUkRlg1lOgMPBLIdad9oi9L5k_jXhsEqP116jgWhThG1IkFRPaRmMD4IoT1Poz_lU/s1600-h/IMG_2701.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5262022456919198130" style="WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjefcfdFLehWZlotRsQuqz91BduPrx2m6URT3YYV6NzMihkflQWKlfPlN43wsuDAx6Rs8Q5hymzQndUkRlg1lOgMPBLIdad9oi9L5k_jXhsEqP116jgWhThG1IkFRPaRmMD4IoT1Poz_lU/s400/IMG_2701.JPG" border="0" /></a></strong></span></div></div>Hollyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10808767901346801444noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5762667552380344937.post-87857269937730992682008-10-20T16:32:00.023-06:002008-10-20T17:11:30.788-06:00It's Time to BUY PUMPKINS!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV0sRDR4CoICxhfXdPL3dm151oUvwbaIMbWXyTBfCgo5vphvQm1A0BQbcBLFyMWk-Cn-pbc3YC3YZSeb4Cr1_9wh_fcWryMZT3jfuLp9ZQrdTKYhGHnrIFP8MVxdBl8D1WfruQxljCluE/s1600-h/IMG_2697.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259370102108649698" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV0sRDR4CoICxhfXdPL3dm151oUvwbaIMbWXyTBfCgo5vphvQm1A0BQbcBLFyMWk-Cn-pbc3YC3YZSeb4Cr1_9wh_fcWryMZT3jfuLp9ZQrdTKYhGHnrIFP8MVxdBl8D1WfruQxljCluE/s320/IMG_2697.JPG" border="0" /></a><br />We have some really good friends in our ward who are selling pumpkins for a GREAT cause. They have a daughter who wants to be a mother, but can't get pregnant. (I know how she feels)! They are selling pumpkins and giving all of the money to their daughter to adopt a baby.<br /><br />Now I know all of you are in need of pumpkins for Halloween and this is the best place to get them. They are selling them for 20 cents a pound which is cheaper than most other places. Not only are they cheaper they are a lot better too.<br /><br />Tommy and I went down on Saturday and bought a couple of them. They have the largest pumpkins, and they are also the prettiest. They are a very bright orange color. Not like anything I have ever seen!<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio49NpE6d2YhnGExxbfoi7khaSkkPJ8Fx2ptRTuiQ-vPhkAO6p9GhnjIpkRY5DoolALC_gcYw21zdXvxuYyiKHVZI_eAn-uphTJMNjilCUS4tLMbYD-E7LUQKZ36RS8Z5ZE0be1vfTDZ4/s1600-h/IMG_2698.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259370124761787666" style="WIDTH: 246px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 215px" height="231" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio49NpE6d2YhnGExxbfoi7khaSkkPJ8Fx2ptRTuiQ-vPhkAO6p9GhnjIpkRY5DoolALC_gcYw21zdXvxuYyiKHVZI_eAn-uphTJMNjilCUS4tLMbYD-E7LUQKZ36RS8Z5ZE0be1vfTDZ4/s320/IMG_2698.JPG" width="286" border="0" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDMyrBXAXUvO9Vds2o_i74r2ZECpjCFR_ZVfkQx0VQoYhkwYWI4R4BAuKR7LtJqGOvJZgUdiT7iH500Kka47Xhu5PWxF1hMJsjmjyG1oznuCytpe_AsHfzcosC9clltWwN-FyDQDWISks/s1600-h/IMG_2700.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259370115603633250" style="WIDTH: 224px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 214px" height="239" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDMyrBXAXUvO9Vds2o_i74r2ZECpjCFR_ZVfkQx0VQoYhkwYWI4R4BAuKR7LtJqGOvJZgUdiT7iH500Kka47Xhu5PWxF1hMJsjmjyG1oznuCytpe_AsHfzcosC9clltWwN-FyDQDWISks/s320/IMG_2700.JPG" width="290" border="0" /></a><br />JUST A FEW SAMPLE PICTURES TO GET YOU EXCITED!<br />SEE HOW ORANGE THEY ARE!<br /><br />If you want to help you can just get off on the University Parkway exit and turn to the right. When the bishop told me I would be in charge for four big activities a year I didn't think much of it. Little did I know how much work it is.<br /><br />I got the idea of Favorite Things from Tommy's sister Jen. She told me all about how they did it in their ward and we changed it a little bit. The basic idea is from "Oprah's Favorite Things." Each sister was supposed to bring their "favorite thing" to share so we could get to know them better. The idea was for people to bring something to give to others that was their favorite thing. I met with my committee and shared the idea. They loved it and so we started planning.<br /><br />I knew that we needed a cute invitation to get people excited about the activity. I also knew we needed to give them some incentive to want to come. Can we say gifts! That always gets people to come out. The planning began...<br /><br />I enlisted the help of my most creative friend Melanie for some help on the invite. They turned out so cute. Here is what they looked like. Thanks again Melanie I couldn't have done it without you! These were a hit!<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3RnvoBtM3lCrCO7f5WRiziWUSbq-KvLGtHtKdmZOszn6vwtK3XAjNFztoHmWIPXfAP_z3NVWdc8BU4di_SpHAsdxtGHLFR5azgXoamYzgOZBy6fZnn9LDLGeScmoVi5l0VBQxuVTSi4U/s1600-h/IMG_2694.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5258197451585726498" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3RnvoBtM3lCrCO7f5WRiziWUSbq-KvLGtHtKdmZOszn6vwtK3XAjNFztoHmWIPXfAP_z3NVWdc8BU4di_SpHAsdxtGHLFR5azgXoamYzgOZBy6fZnn9LDLGeScmoVi5l0VBQxuVTSi4U/s320/IMG_2694.JPG" border="0" /></a> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPTyIi0coHKxvsPbZMtcKAxFJM8BfHcliktqsgIJBiHrWCsW-KDt2vfYPeNMYrDV345umO0kAkA5ENs0-OD9a001IdFkwTgCXoVBGrGHbTg2n05bAChsDC5aPQ3N_lI2j8iJF29lWdLUg/s1600-h/IMG_2695.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5258197457758491474" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPTyIi0coHKxvsPbZMtcKAxFJM8BfHcliktqsgIJBiHrWCsW-KDt2vfYPeNMYrDV345umO0kAkA5ENs0-OD9a001IdFkwTgCXoVBGrGHbTg2n05bAChsDC5aPQ3N_lI2j8iJF29lWdLUg/s320/IMG_2695.JPG" border="0" /></a><br />My good neighbor Kristin came up with the idea of giving the gable boxes to hold all of the stuff they would get that night. As we were talking we decided it wouldn't be "Oprah's Favorite Things" without gifts. Kristin and I talked to many local business who willingly donated items for our boxes.<br /><br />Now we had the ideas in place it was time to do the work. I hope that it will be as successful as this one!<br />I have to give a big thank you to Tommy. He was a support thoughout the whole thing and was there to help anyway he could. I have to be honest- I had heard of the REAL soccer team but that was about all. He told me that <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Xango</span> <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">sponsors</span> the team and he could get us some tickets. We decided to get 2 tickets for the first game at their new stadium. The day of the game it was extremely cold! If you know me you know I don't like to be cold so I planned accordingly. I was wearing about 5 layers of clothes on the top, a beanie, a <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">hoodie</span>, a fleece, and my winter coat. I also had a blanket to keep my legs warm.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJM7J86v6DjQ6bX2CXY6MNN-NrN0mNairj3KpXVzwDW46sRCDSKN1syzRdjbaRNzpwk7O1GtiBChFXHfnFYljUjQefQmNy-BHS8YKIumKBP1zkuXARWPSkVzI6nEnm1tcjiQzwtKKT7CQ/s1600-h/kristins+soccer+enrichment+003.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5258166103626607042" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJM7J86v6DjQ6bX2CXY6MNN-NrN0mNairj3KpXVzwDW46sRCDSKN1syzRdjbaRNzpwk7O1GtiBChFXHfnFYljUjQefQmNy-BHS8YKIumKBP1zkuXARWPSkVzI6nEnm1tcjiQzwtKKT7CQ/s400/kristins+soccer+enrichment+003.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />The game was a blast. I had never been to a professional soccer game before so when the players all walked out holding the hands of cute little kids I asked Tommy what the little kids were doing. He told me that all pro soccer teams do that. That is so cute.<p align="left"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjC77Y1Y7_1idsqoznS_FjjPlHIPrhilctXudqxglc2y6AUkUJJr2s56xiQO2Q1TfZizyI7PkLAYxI5XPWfPV3wGacsICcLffgZQ_qjZ-O2-PGjMVbJLV4XwJuz9I3wu0O_-RB7_jH_IUc/s1600-h/kristins+soccer+enrichment+008.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5258166113501040242" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjC77Y1Y7_1idsqoznS_FjjPlHIPrhilctXudqxglc2y6AUkUJJr2s56xiQO2Q1TfZizyI7PkLAYxI5XPWfPV3wGacsICcLffgZQ_qjZ-O2-PGjMVbJLV4XwJuz9I3wu0O_-RB7_jH_IUc/s400/kristins+soccer+enrichment+008.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />The highlight of the evening was when one of the REAL players got kicked in head. The player on the other team was yellow carded by the ref. He didn't like that call and started pushing the ref around. This went on for a little bit and soon he was red carded and was ejected from the game.<br />Tommy and I don't do things like this much and we really enjoyed it. <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">Unfortunately</span> the game ended in a tie (1 to 1). The stadium is beautiful. There isn't a bad seat in the house. There is only game left this season. If you are looking for a good date night this is one you need try out but you'll have to wait until the new season starts next year.Hollyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10808767901346801444noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5762667552380344937.post-6864264568751288142008-09-21T19:42:00.042-06:002008-10-20T16:21:14.987-06:00Safety WeekAt my school we celebrated safety week. We celebrate it every year and use this opportunity to teach the children about how to be safe walking or riding their bikes to and from school. This year was an exception! Our wonderful PTA got together and wrote a grant and got a large sum of money to help pull off this event. Most of the money is going to a much needed sidewalk to make the route to school safer for students. The rest of the money was used to pay for the fun activities that happened at our school this week.<br /><br />Each day of school there was a celebrity crossing guard. The celebrities were Cosmo, Chief (Utah Blaze), and Willy the Wolverine (UVU). The kids absoultly loved it. They all went home with an autograph from the mascots.<br /><br />Each student was given a new helmet, pedometer, and water bottle to help them to remember to be safe.<br /><br />All of those things were really fun but the best thing was they had enough money to give away two bikes to every classroom. It was a total of 72 bikes. The students had to turn in a paper signed by them and their parents and then they were entered into the drawing for our class. On Friday we had an assembly to give away the bikes. They called the students' names and had them stand up. I really got emotional as I watched all of these students getting their new bikes. The PTA went above and beyond and bought 12 MORE bikes to give away to those families that really needed it.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7egGgL97H0KDnQ2ldkTSeK8BkQW5KRJZL3w96VdORWRWM_HJYsQP2ZDYOuW4acKJqQdg7c3CFJuFuge1AFDo9hzFkqIQ95GUySs8MkzSblxX6d-SlCctBR4AYIxff_IT890MXoBSYTC8/s1600-h/IMG_2518.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5248658968221554610" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7egGgL97H0KDnQ2ldkTSeK8BkQW5KRJZL3w96VdORWRWM_HJYsQP2ZDYOuW4acKJqQdg7c3CFJuFuge1AFDo9hzFkqIQ95GUySs8MkzSblxX6d-SlCctBR4AYIxff_IT890MXoBSYTC8/s400/IMG_2518.JPG" border="0" /></a><br />Here is a pic of all the bikes. You may ask why it is that it has taken so long to post this trip. 1- Vacations take forever to post because there are so many pics and stuff to write about and let's be honest it is kind of overwhelming. 2- I started school the day after we got back and have been dealing with the hustle and bustle of that too. So here is my attempt to getting this vacation posted.<br /><br />FELLOW <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">BLOGGERS</span> PLEASE FORGIVE I PROMISE TO BE BACK ON TRACK!<br /><br />This was a much needed vacation for us since we haven't been on vacation since our honeymoon which was almost 4 years ago. We picked Tommy up from work on Friday, Aug. 1st and drove to Lake Tahoe that night. It was about 2 AM when we got there. Tommy and I had never been to Lake Tahoe and woke up to this beautiful sight! We hung around there until lunch and then we were off to San Francisco!<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYa3Ix4VbDa6-fR6kqdmfrWENH5co9e7NzFytXXS3XUZqcGiRo4685ilNOFiVnQcDPkZpjayVoy_WMgJLk2-YaBNfO7_x5QtIIoR8DpUiWku_b0pSrwkWCdQoeqrUNnyxulkFGm_IzTSU/s1600-h/Kristin's+San+Francisco+004.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5236422897824581762" style="WIDTH: 254px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 226px" height="240" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYa3Ix4VbDa6-fR6kqdmfrWENH5co9e7NzFytXXS3XUZqcGiRo4685ilNOFiVnQcDPkZpjayVoy_WMgJLk2-YaBNfO7_x5QtIIoR8DpUiWku_b0pSrwkWCdQoeqrUNnyxulkFGm_IzTSU/s320/Kristin's+San+Francisco+004.jpg" width="289" border="0" /></a> <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5236422419570218226" style="WIDTH: 226px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 302px" height="290" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4eyhPePpykZWwf1RyjLOcJnqKdlyPzidVy0wUVd66H0dzjC9NX6JfWCPFin9pr2kQLsfhyYbk1cMaem4lxNKJJJ0a9_oqFY_WP0rG5153FO1XcRwzgWgNhcdbQZMxR4TpXEJsSL3YkZA/s320/IMG_2048.JPG" width="240" border="0" /><br />Our Next Stop...<br /><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7_z1nvJwpA1KtZDdS8Fx1AfVJWco2-43-wXXUQyGyWpJshcNbG1SXhkVcCgYpVyvVGISri-ebPA8nh1QwEfIw86H39AORF-HWC3lp1W5pK0m3TxCsVFR21rG_x1HcuPso9PRXXcISuRQ/s1600-h/muir+woods.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5236798643112787090" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7_z1nvJwpA1KtZDdS8Fx1AfVJWco2-43-wXXUQyGyWpJshcNbG1SXhkVcCgYpVyvVGISri-ebPA8nh1QwEfIw86H39AORF-HWC3lp1W5pK0m3TxCsVFR21rG_x1HcuPso9PRXXcISuRQ/s400/muir+woods.jpg" border="0" /></a> </div><div></div><div>This is not "The Redwood Forest" but it was still completely incredible! Today, Alcatraz is a place of contradictions, with a grim past and an enduring future as one of San Francisco 's most prominent landmarks and tourist attractions. This is a MUST see! As you can see from the photos it was EXTREMELY cold and windy. We took the night tour because the views of the city from Alcatraz were amazing. As we walked down the halls where the inmates walked and spent much of their lives it was a very humbling experience. We learned a lot about many of the high profile inmates and their attempts to escape Alcatraz. We toured the entire facility from the cells, solitary confinement, the library, the mess hall, the gardens, and the workers quarters. One point of great interest to Tommy and I is that even with the hardest of criminals on the island, because of the difficulty and time required to travel back and forth from the city to the island the majority of the employees and their families lived just outside of the compound where the criminals were detained. What a way to grow up, knowing that Al Capone and his buddies are just next door. Alcatraz was eventually closed because the cost of maintaining the facility was too great. How ironic that it is now a major source of revenue for the city of San Francisco with millions of people visiting each year. </div><br /><div>Our Next Stop...</div><div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFc1wXAAZ2bAG7630NqDPeUHx1VbCErsbv2NUYsS7m6_34UcsirsiE044faXCzXJ1wxV9vU2CAWtWlnPOAGJdy9mArxgeXsgqfphsHvWM0MHJDebvy2zjM3ayFcSP-OISSG56QSylUSuU/s1600-h/giants+game.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242378014038126802" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFc1wXAAZ2bAG7630NqDPeUHx1VbCErsbv2NUYsS7m6_34UcsirsiE044faXCzXJ1wxV9vU2CAWtWlnPOAGJdy9mArxgeXsgqfphsHvWM0MHJDebvy2zjM3ayFcSP-OISSG56QSylUSuU/s400/giants+game.jpg" border="0" /></a></div><div></div><div>As soon as we starting planning the trip Tommy insisted that we go to at least one San Francisco Giants game. He started researching and scored us some amazing seats on the 8<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">th</span> row. It was so cool to be so close. Before the trip we each purchased a SF Giants hat to show our spirit to the team. Although it was a bit chilly (I had to go to the gift store and buy a long sleeve shirt to stay warm) it was a lot of fun. You can see from the photos what a beautiful place AT&T Park is. </div><div>GO GIANTS!<br /></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJB75MX8OFrEO5gLdCha8CXHB7D9Cik2mDMtog2LxXe7pWQD1gUd8gTGWQWyGlnMHZa2AURWnRZZqYaN0zG9ITPRp9sQjRwIB5FYETRD1-SsvNMOPE5saRVOQD1ORARbcW1MNOUmToc-g/s1600-h/the+city.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242994910319208866" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJB75MX8OFrEO5gLdCha8CXHB7D9Cik2mDMtog2LxXe7pWQD1gUd8gTGWQWyGlnMHZa2AURWnRZZqYaN0zG9ITPRp9sQjRwIB5FYETRD1-SsvNMOPE5saRVOQD1ORARbcW1MNOUmToc-g/s400/the+city.jpg" border="0" /></a> </div><div></div><div>The city of San Francisco is a very interesting and fun city. This page just highlights some of the many icons of San Francisco. The first is the trolley cars. I had never been on one of these or seen one except in the TV show Full House. We used these to get just about everywhere. I was a little nervous of the big hills at first and mostly sat on the inside with the other millions of people who wanted to sit and stay warm. I know I am a <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">whimp</span>! Tommy insisted on standing on the edge every time we rode it. I got braver by the end of the trip and so we had to take a picture.</div><br /><div>The other pictures that you see are pictures taken from the free glass elevator in a local hotel. Did I say FREE? I swear we rode this almost everyday because the view was breathtaking. At the beginning of the ride it took awhile to get up because of the other people using the elevator. One of our favorite views was of Union Square. This is the "hang out" of SF. There is food, shops, concerts, and a lot of socializing going on there. Once we got to the 32<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">nd</span> floor, we pushed the lobby button and when down very quickly. It was a bit scary. I thought we were going to fall to the ground. </div><br /><div>So those of you that think it is a little odd that we took a picture eating ice cream let me explain. Tommy grew up in <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">Las</span> Vegas and grew up eating this dirt cheap ice cream called Thrifty. It was located in the local grocery store. He would pay about 25 cents for a single scoop. WHAT A DEAL! So our wonderful neighbor Kristin grew up in California and spent her childhood eating this ice cream as well. One day before the trip they were talking and somehow got on the topic of ice cream and Thrifty came up. They both were oohing and <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">aahing</span> about how great this ice cream was. Kristin mentioned that there was a Thrifty in SF and that we would have to make the stop. So one afternoon Kristin said that she thought we were close to Thrifty. Tommy said then let's go. Sure enough we found it in a Rite-Aid. I don't think I have every seen Tommy get so excited. He and Kristin were scoping out all their favorite flavors, the cylinder shaped scooper, and best of all the price. $1.50 for a double scoop! We all got ice cream and I have to admit it was pretty good. I think for them it is was about the memories of their childhood.<br /></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPzM4vlUustCQGJ-a1RKIIhEZUiBHUZcL8L26VnCi2U9Ui-7C4e4e1A6PxIIHRJf25r7Sdxq5iLIC25XZz3YEayNoL61Rc7w0DPt3b9QdVYnZJ5AMgj8EMCU-hbtLjw6cACB3fukgC4CE/s1600-h/fisherman's+wharf.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242375273028699442" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPzM4vlUustCQGJ-a1RKIIhEZUiBHUZcL8L26VnCi2U9Ui-7C4e4e1A6PxIIHRJf25r7Sdxq5iLIC25XZz3YEayNoL61Rc7w0DPt3b9QdVYnZJ5AMgj8EMCU-hbtLjw6cACB3fukgC4CE/s400/fisherman's+wharf.jpg" border="0" /></a></div><div></div><div>I know this page is labeled Fisherman's Wharf but not everything was on the wharf. A lot of them were just things that we saw close by Fisherman's Wharf. This was one of our favorite places to be. We went down everyday and saw something new. Of course we had to go and see all of the lazy sea lions. I could watch these crazy animals for hours. They are so entertaining. </div><br /><div>As we walked along there were beautiful boats in the harbor. I couldn't resist a picture. Tommy and Boyd were going to go shark fishing, but they couldn't find anyone to take them for a reasonable price. The other pictures on this page are just all of us being calm, cool, and collected. The sunglasses were just too crazy to pass up a picture. The picture of Tommy and I by the face is some sort of art. Pretty interesting but we couldn't pass it up. As we walked through the shops on the wharf Tommy found a furry little friend and started dancing. It was one of the funniest things I have ever seen. These two can dance!<br /></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9Zvi8Tohf9mVMmhhESf9OhMNyIFKS5wyt4ZxTvcirpApuU1J2qgHomApdzWYOJlwNGo0WuTY5PXFM7yVwhLNG7RqPk2Cv7ejy1Q2tUcUUs1KeP014QtauYacxW0uqO9_g0RfrCyDWt0Q/s1600-h/conservatory.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242374780892874434" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9Zvi8Tohf9mVMmhhESf9OhMNyIFKS5wyt4ZxTvcirpApuU1J2qgHomApdzWYOJlwNGo0WuTY5PXFM7yVwhLNG7RqPk2Cv7ejy1Q2tUcUUs1KeP014QtauYacxW0uqO9_g0RfrCyDWt0Q/s400/conservatory.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /></div><div></div><div>The Conservatory of the Flowers was a little ways out of the city but well worth the ride...especially because it was FREE day! This place is just a greenhouse type building that people can walk through. They have thousands of flowers and plants that are unusual and something I have never see before. You need to click on the page and get a closer look at some of these pictures. You will be amazed! Those of you that know Tommy know that he loves this kind of stuff. Needless to say we took a ton of pictures at this place. Check out that leaf that Tommy is getting some shade under...it is HUGE.<br /></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj42FkTswneH_CGoj24cs2Ecn0aR31zhaDtmIlwRMQv6JkIuQm3Px3wSk1s9HKzr84Kc_lFikRNj9Ob4S4eJdSM1BCyq3R0XZawGvb6xFyOze220e9kv7sIfJw8miWm07J-mLm8PvsyoKM/s1600-h/IMG_2304.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5246420832658682178" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj42FkTswneH_CGoj24cs2Ecn0aR31zhaDtmIlwRMQv6JkIuQm3Px3wSk1s9HKzr84Kc_lFikRNj9Ob4S4eJdSM1BCyq3R0XZawGvb6xFyOze220e9kv7sIfJw8miWm07J-mLm8PvsyoKM/s400/IMG_2304.JPG" border="0" /></a></div><br /><div>At the Conservatory of the Flowers they had an incredible butterfly exhibit. They had real butterflies flying all of the place. They would land on your finger, or on flowers. We spent quite a bit of time completely <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7">mesmerized by these little creatures. Upon exiting the exhibit there were many information boards that patrons could read to learn more about the butterflies. I saw this one and just couldn't resist, I knew this would be the highlight of the trip for Tommy! Finally...Tommy's life has been validated.</span><br /></div><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiG30nOyALLf0nq_pZbQU2VgZFisMVj-63G352O1IAdcBz0iOSQkcIOYMWs7ohmA-nHIFlu_Kg32DT2yy5GEoSZTD_tIiisZF6IKOpFGuABmVf9fteK2Dvo9RCYgANnguTKSodcyeuzjM0/s1600-h/golden+gate+bridge.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242381640999121106" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiG30nOyALLf0nq_pZbQU2VgZFisMVj-63G352O1IAdcBz0iOSQkcIOYMWs7ohmA-nHIFlu_Kg32DT2yy5GEoSZTD_tIiisZF6IKOpFGuABmVf9fteK2Dvo9RCYgANnguTKSodcyeuzjM0/s400/golden+gate+bridge.jpg" border="0" /></a></div><br /><div>On the trip from Lake Tahoe to SF our friends had to stop off at a family reunion so we went to see Tommy's Uncle Jessie in Rocklin. One of the things that they told us we must do was to bike the Golden Gate Bridge. We asked repeatedly if it was an easy ride. They assured us they had taken all of the children and it would be something we wouldn't forget. </div><br /><div>So we talked to the Palmer's and we all decided it would be a fun thing to do. Now many of you know that exercise it not my thing. All of the walking that we had done in SF previous to this I thought for sure I was ready. We went and picked up our bikes down on Fisherman's Wharf. They gave us our instructions and we were off. We were all excited and ready for a relaxing ride. After uphill, after uphill, after uphill we were ready to be done, but their was one big problem we hadn't made it to the bridge yet. So we forged on. Once we got to the bridge it was really awesome. The walkways were crowded and made it even harder to manuever our bikes but we did it and the view from the bridge was great. Needless to say the way back was a lot better because it was all downhill. </div><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisC6TWMJwz2zZGgg-HP7xQg3yxCN9cKl6xbNRjrsIKoJHvmBx06HrbaGAjRtVJHUUgSDh87beivUr1CBJcB_3KIf4YyqKH5GjdDPAIzUuJcI8HnqP84nHKtiKdKksvqotpcOaewEUv6dw/s1600-h/chinatown.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5242374401965491714" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisC6TWMJwz2zZGgg-HP7xQg3yxCN9cKl6xbNRjrsIKoJHvmBx06HrbaGAjRtVJHUUgSDh87beivUr1CBJcB_3KIf4YyqKH5GjdDPAIzUuJcI8HnqP84nHKtiKdKksvqotpcOaewEUv6dw/s400/chinatown.jpg" border="0" /></a> </div><div></div><div>Every big city has their own version of Chinatown. I have to admit this was the real deal. If I wouldn't have known that we were in California I probably would have mistaken it for China. We saw so many Chinese people running these little shops as we walked down the streets listening to Tommy sing "My little China girl" (take a listen in the play list, it's great). We had a lot of fun outside of this one little shop. I swear they were just asking people to stop and dress up with a few minor props and take some wonderful souvenier pictures. Tommy was of course the one who instigated this dress up party. He grabbed the hat first then Boyd joined in with the sword for a wonderful pic. Kristin and I went for something a little more feminine. Don't we look cute?<br /></div></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidfuPwYxXMkz4cq0-1K81-s-xz-fzxkk4FbCBb4j3hH-UslnOF9SUCV836C_4P1Oav5JV8UW_CUQooRG14NFKdnF261OmuJRngniSpowk4hRPwKixq7Mif6v3GUEqg12g9nDx62GPty1A/s1600-h/fortune+cookie+factory.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5244534351432423026" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidfuPwYxXMkz4cq0-1K81-s-xz-fzxkk4FbCBb4j3hH-UslnOF9SUCV836C_4P1Oav5JV8UW_CUQooRG14NFKdnF261OmuJRngniSpowk4hRPwKixq7Mif6v3GUEqg12g9nDx62GPty1A/s400/fortune+cookie+factory.jpg" border="0" /></a> </div><div><br />This was one of my favorite places to see because it was so unbelievable. As you can see from the sign this is a fortune cookie factory. I am not joking these two ladies work in this little alley in Chinatown all day making fortune cookies. So over the years this has become a huge tourist attraction so these ladies got smart. If you wanted to take pictures of them working you had to pay them money. We agreed because this process was so amazing. You need to click on the picture to get a closer look. This is the way the process works. Obviously I am sure they make the batter (we didn't see this part) but they have a little thing that squirts some batter on to each of these little skillets. The batter then hardens as it cooks. The ladies then take the round cookie off the skillet when it is still pliable and adds the fortune and bends the cookie into the normal shape. That is it. We watched it from start to finish. Tommy tried to talk to them throughout the process, but they weren't the most friendly people. What can you expect they are making cookies! When the lady was taking off the round cookie he mentioned that it must be hot. The little Chinese lady said, "VERY HOT! VERY HOT!" After we watched and got the pictures we wanted we decided to buy a few cookies. Tommy handed the lady some money. When the lady took the money we saw the box that she was keeping the money in. It was a mess. There were bills going everywhere. It wasn't a cash register, and get this- She didn't stop working while she took the money. So when she handed Tommy his money it was going all directions and a complete mess. She politely said, "Here yo money." I guess you just had to be there but we laughed about this for hours!<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSLvkReDON-Ia58gH_7NNE60a7kZNd1PPH7SAkkh30rhrwcTErK-sCfGGz_ixlrwySoRNtBm4HpqlwMvznY8BpaxV-T-H3sESi22zhr3D1eh8-mhYQu7sIDDExkY0LKkjrdhUiDdL00m8/s1600-h/crazy+people.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5244535547390464802" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSLvkReDON-Ia58gH_7NNE60a7kZNd1PPH7SAkkh30rhrwcTErK-sCfGGz_ixlrwySoRNtBm4HpqlwMvznY8BpaxV-T-H3sESi22zhr3D1eh8-mhYQu7sIDDExkY0LKkjrdhUiDdL00m8/s400/crazy+people.jpg" border="0" /></a> </div><div></div><div>As we walked down the streets of SF we saw some very interesting sights. I took pictures of the best ones. </div><div><br />We saw the person with the rolled down blue socks. How weird you don't see that anymore. This was Tommy's favorite because he loves to do this to little babies and kids socks when he around them. Never thought we would see a grown person do it on purpose. </div><div></div><div>We saw the afro guy enjoying his lunch while we were walking along the street. I just couldn't resist this. I made Tommy stand by the building so it looked like I was taking his picture. Tricky huh?</div><div></div><div>We saw the Chinese lady in the yellow coat at the zoo. Wait is she wearing anything but that yellow coat? Check out how bow legged she is. </div><div></div><div>The rest of these pictures are all of citizens of SF trying to make a little extra cash. They knew the high traffic areas and I think they were pulling in more money than most of us working people. Is is a little extra cash or a career?</div><div><br />We saw this Chinese lady several times around the city. She walks around with a big bag and big long tongs that you use to cook with. She goes around to the different trash cans and fishes out items of trash that can be recycled. She turns in the trash for cash. A little different take on dumpster diving right?</div><div></div><div>The guy in the red sweatshirt is a painter. He and his buddies are on the wharf all day and night. They have the most amazing talent. They use spray paint and create the most unusual pictures of the city. If you click on the picture you can get a little better idea of what I am talking about.</div><div><br />The two silver guys were some of our favorite. They had their boomboxes and were dancing like robots. I have to admit they had some pretty good moves. Also check out their killer outfits. I was taking some pictures of the guy on the bottom right and he saw me and motioned for me to come to him. I went and he was kind enough to pose for a picture. Too bad it didn't turn out. </div><div><br />The last guy was by far the funniest. As you can see from his picture he looks like a glorified bum. I think we are mistaken because I watched so many people give him money. He was incredible on the banjo. He was singing and playing and all of a sudden his string broke. He took a short break to fix it and he was singing again in no time. Get this the name of his "band" was Spare Change!"<br /></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdOH8GIOBwYCve_kdI27kfT3X6ZWfw5OK-57Kml6sb1abWGy3RUs1l3PUGw5DnDkd8mtJt-Uj7JpDLbtTm7JRfe-025sm3itrG47x7nSI1ws2SiYrgpFBdVB-afMnlVASNvX5rcVugBYE/s1600-h/yosemite.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5246458375159439954" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdOH8GIOBwYCve_kdI27kfT3X6ZWfw5OK-57Kml6sb1abWGy3RUs1l3PUGw5DnDkd8mtJt-Uj7JpDLbtTm7JRfe-025sm3itrG47x7nSI1ws2SiYrgpFBdVB-afMnlVASNvX5rcVugBYE/s400/yosemite.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /></div><div></div><div>This National Park was amazing. When we got there we went to see the "Giant Sequoias" first. We hiked to the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_8">Grizzly</span> Giant. It was a BIG tree. We hiked a little further and we found a tree that you could drive a stagecoach through. It was amazing. The pictures that we took don't do it justice...THEY ARE HUGE and very incredible. </div><div></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzmKVzHDNzqSZJ-auPIcrjQ33azltY-7unYXbTPPsi4c5Er_8t9-NqGnZYsmJpsqJ9VtbMoYOE9GcrzeC8gfLO5-EbV__bLWfRGhh10f50xwJD46R8aX7nXjnJ1Di-y8o9mtIlOJ5S8lY/s1600-h/yosemite+2.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5246461509441618434" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzmKVzHDNzqSZJ-auPIcrjQ33azltY-7unYXbTPPsi4c5Er_8t9-NqGnZYsmJpsqJ9VtbMoYOE9GcrzeC8gfLO5-EbV__bLWfRGhh10f50xwJD46R8aX7nXjnJ1Di-y8o9mtIlOJ5S8lY/s400/yosemite+2.jpg" border="0" /></a></div><div></div><div>The views in Yosemite were amazing. The most famous landmarks there are these mountains. They are called El Capitan and Half Dome. Kristin has climbed Half Dome before. She said it was an amazing experience. It wasn't an easy trip, but really cool to be able to tell people that you have hiked all the way to the top! Way to go Kristin. </div><div></div><div>As you can tell we had an incredible vacation. We want to thank Boyd and Kristin for taking us under their wing on this beautiful adventure. They have a timeshare and hooked us up big time. We would never have been able to afford it without them. Not only did they help us out by hooking us up with a place to stay they showed us some amazing sights. We couldn't have naviagated this beautiful place without them. Thanks again Boyd and Kristin. I have been going to the beach with them every year since we have been married and I look forward to it every time. On July 3rd Tommy's sister and I drove to Vegas where we met up with Tommy's parents and the rest of the family to drive the rest of the way to California. Tommy wasn't able to go with me because of his new job. So I just went with his parents, his sister, and four of his brothers.<br /><br />Now when most people go on vacation it is all about siteseeing, and doing fun things together. Not at the beach...this was our agenda<br />1. Sleep in until about 11<br />2. Eat breakfast<br />3. Walk down the stairs to the beach<br />4. Play and lay out on the beach<br />5. Walk up the stairs for a quick snack for lunch<br />6. Go back to the beach until about 5<br />7. Shower<br />8. Go get something to eat<br />9. After dinner we play games and watch movies<br />10. Go to bed and start the same routine over the next day!<br /><br />Now some might think this would be a boring trip, but for me it is the best. I love the beach and I love the California sun. Some days it is overcast but you can still get good sun on those days. There was one day while we were there that it was downright cold. That day we went shopping, went to Newport and walked around etc.<br /><br />Since most of you don't know Tommy's family I will give you a quick idea of everyone who went. Tommy's Mom and Dad obviously went. Nate, age 26, he is currently living in CA for Law School. Luckily he was able to take some time away to spend with us. Laura, age 20, we rode down together from Provo. Taylor, age 18, just graduated from high school. Sean, age 15, will be a sophomore in high school this year.<br /><br />So I was gone a total of 13 days WITHOUT Tommy. I wouldn't recommend that to anyone! I missed him so much and wished everyday that he was having fun at the beach with me, instead of at work. When I walked in the door there was two dozen beautiful red roses on the counter. He is so thoughtful! We decided after this trip that we are not EVER going to be separated that long again. Tommy I love you!<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHAKrjASc7IiI-OrOYNbmX149GxEWHt-BWfnqT3_KAIGPYQ5pmBKceCSwWpUx0FSsfSSrYr7IFxCX73tvd8K68Shx2TVQ9FyOKhXGxNaxzC_oKbDdHVK8K5tAPSRm9bojGOsnEYWFh684/s1600-h/IMG_2014.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5225508703576818162" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHAKrjASc7IiI-OrOYNbmX149GxEWHt-BWfnqT3_KAIGPYQ5pmBKceCSwWpUx0FSsfSSrYr7IFxCX73tvd8K68Shx2TVQ9FyOKhXGxNaxzC_oKbDdHVK8K5tAPSRm9bojGOsnEYWFh684/s320/IMG_2014.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I decided the best way to show you the different events of our trip was with a slideshow. There are just too many fun pictures to only post a few. He took the next semester off to study and take the DAT. Since the beginning of the summer he has been looking for a job. He called in a favor to my brother who works for XanGo to see if he knew of any positions they were hiring for. My brother found a position in the commissions department that they were hiring for and that is where Tommy is going to work. He is going to be a commissions analyst for them. I don't really know what he will be doing, but he is extremely excited to work and bring in some $$ for our family.Hollyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10808767901346801444noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5762667552380344937.post-39038909817143912482008-06-26T12:23:00.009-06:002008-12-09T06:45:44.365-07:00Macie Gale<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0rreJNqx86AS5Bq2W5lp8kjaFptq6KIZf2PnvC_e2Elucy2FGD-4lXo9MxH1gqvWLRddSY_jVM-rAIGBbHolqfCMqgXmYv04zBHjAYehdN4CbZdd0KBlbxAp42jdMkhaq4NAlI1fBXlU/s1600-h/macie.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0rreJNqx86AS5Bq2W5lp8kjaFptq6KIZf2PnvC_e2Elucy2FGD-4lXo9MxH1gqvWLRddSY_jVM-rAIGBbHolqfCMqgXmYv04zBHjAYehdN4CbZdd0KBlbxAp42jdMkhaq4NAlI1fBXlU/s400/macie.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5216260105956130322" /></a><br /><br />So I wish I could post a cute picture of a baby of our own, but that hasn't happened yet...so I am posting pictures of our newest niece. Tommy's sister Emily had her first little baby girl yesterday morning. They named her Macie. She is a healthy baby girl and super cute too! Check out all of that hair!! We went to the hospital to see them yesterday afternoon. Mom and baby were very tired from the delivery but both are recovering well. <br /><br />Tommy's parents came from Las Vegas to see her. They said that she looks a lot like all of their children when they were born. They said that all of their children were born with lots of hair and cute little round faces. Hopefully our babies are a cute as this little one! <br /><br />Welcome to the world Macie!Hollyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10808767901346801444noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5762667552380344937.post-39621635427268198322008-06-21T08:22:00.010-06:002008-06-21T21:53:14.994-06:00The RodeoLast night we went with some friends to the Strawberry Days Rodeo in Pleasant Grove. I went and bought the tickets earlier in the week, and was so excited to go. Tommy grew up in Las Vegas where he saw many different rodeos. He even got to go to the NFR once. I on the other hand have only been a few in my whole lifetime. We went with our neighbors across the hall from us and he is a big fan of rodeos. He explained each event to me and what they would need to do. This is like a whole new language. I know so much more now, and I am looking forward to other rodeos this summer.<br /><br />Check out the slideshow underneath this post to see the different events that were held. Sorry some of the pictures are blurry. There was a lot of action that I was trying to capture. I don't have the best camera so some of them didn't turn out so well. Someday we will have a better camera!Hollyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10808767901346801444noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5762667552380344937.post-50936485116567596522008-06-21T08:19:00.001-06:002008-06-21T08:19:30.460-06:00Strawberry Days Rodeo- YEEHAW!<div style="width:480px; text-align: center;"><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://w275.photobucket.com/pbwidget.swf?pbwurl=http://w275.photobucket.com/albums/jj287/hollydeaver/rodeo/fec12eaa.pbw" height="360" width="480"><a href="http://i275.photobucket.com/redirect/album?action=slideshow&landing=/slideshows&type=111" target="_blank"><img src="http://pic.photobucket.com/slideshows/btn.gif" style="float:left;border-width: 0;" ></a><a href="http://s275.photobucket.com/albums/jj287/hollydeaver/rodeo/?action=view¤t=fec12eaa.pbw" target="_blank"><img src="http://pic.photobucket.com/slideshows/btn_viewallimages.gif" style="float:left;border-width: 0;" ></a></div>Hollyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10808767901346801444noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5762667552380344937.post-8745650890729759692008-06-15T18:18:00.007-06:002008-12-09T06:45:44.490-07:00Garden UpdateSo a few posts ago I wrote about how Tommy and I are trying our hand at gardening this summer. I went over to the garden with Tommy a couple of days ago and this is what I found...<br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5212267665917411266" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFO8Jd2fV0pFsqYNd0sUb9-F8mktOXJapPEP3TUuBW4FP6navLeuiUTvBF9giInaJYN1o0ZO0EWUIj1xndjq1yY_s49aL6dznxKoM4z5CHsk4SG9VGurv_BLdZjPL1ffI4gRVV4uX8Aug/s400/IMG_1690.JPG" border="0" /><br />As you can tell we have stuff growing. The question is, is it really veggies or is it just a bunch of weeds. We talked to the gardening experts while we were there and they said not to be concerned because the weather hasn't been hot enough to really get this crops growing. You gotta love the Utah weather. You never know whether it is going to be sunny, rainy or snowy. So we are going to give it some time and see what happens. More updates to come!Hollyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10808767901346801444noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5762667552380344937.post-88901784251658608272008-06-05T18:29:00.001-06:002008-06-05T18:29:23.125-06:00The Long Awaited Video<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><p><object height='350' width='425'><param value='http://youtube.com/v/7hkttmtAshg' name='movie'/><embed height='350' width='425' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' src='http://youtube.com/v/7hkttmtAshg'/></object></p><p>Here is the video I promised. Sorry! I have been extremely busy getting all of the end of the year festivities out of the way. </div><br /><div>I am teaching summer school for the whole month of June and have been very busy getting that program underway. Today was the first day and it went very well.</div><br /><div>Enough of the business let's get to the new post. It is a tradition at Manila Elementary to have a Dance Festival at the end of the year. Each grade level is responsible for creating a dance that their students can participate in. Lucky for me I have two talented dancers on my team that created this dance. </div><br /><div>The theme was a wild west stampede. We were supposed to pick country songs. If you know me you know that I am not a big fan of country music. So we chose the song on the movie Cars by Rascal Flats called Life is a Highway. The students loved it! It is also tradition to get the students all matching shirts. You might be able to see the shirts from the video but if not there is a little car on the front and on the back of the shirt it says "Speedin' through 2nd Grade" with a highway and a small sign with 3rd on it. The students did a great job performing for the school and their parents. </div><br /><div>I am glad this year is over, but saddened a little bit to loose my students. I had a wonderful group of students this year. I am so glad I had the privilege of being their teacher!</div><div></div><div> </div><div>The video is coming. I have never done this before. If anyone can help me post a video it will be appreciated!</div><div></div>Hollyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10808767901346801444noreply@blogger.com10
